having obtained the land of promise we learn that everyone "gets" a land of promise - even Laman and Lemuel were dragged kicking and screaming to the land of promise. now, what we each do with our land of promise is up to us. the lord promises if we keep his commandments in the promised land we will have liberty, never be brought down into captivity, we'll prosper in the land, none shall molest and no one can take the land away. -on the other hand if we reject the blessings of the lord the judgements of god will rest upon us, we will lose what we have been given, we will be lost, scattered and smitten, wars, led by the devil according to his will. i read this for myself as personal blessings and personal diffuculties. it makes it simple for me to get. chapter 1:21 Lehi wants his sons to understand how real men behave - one mind, one heart, united in all things, wearing the armor of righteousness, reject evil, follow the prophet. all the things laman and lemuel could not bring themselves to do. even as lehi is dying he is counseling and blessing and teaching. he states, I have no other object save it be the everlasing welfare of your souls." imagine how much lehi knew and how much he had witnessed. he knew the trouble that lay ahead for the boys. so, he blesses them, warns them and does the same for their posterity. he did all these things according the feelings of his heart and the spirit of the lord. we as parents have the same promptings from the lord and he will help us to know how to raise our children. listen to your heart and the spirit of the lord. my favorite part of the reading this week was 4:15-35. nephi shows us who he really is exposing his weaknessess and shortcomings and also expressing his love of the scriptures and desires for blessings from the lord. i'm so glad to know that even he is human. i want the same things he wants. i desire the same blessings he desires. i feel like i know this prophet of God because he lets us see who he is.
mom - way to go on updating every week with the new reading. it looks like you have finally figured it out. even changing the fonts and the colors. i am impressed. -McCall
