"KICKING AGAINST THE PRICKS"
a lesson of value to learn from 5 is this:
we pray to Heavenly Father in our times of distress - Nephi's praying for a break from his angry and abusive brothers and praying "MUCH"! (how often does a nearly perfect man pray?). the lord does NOT take his troubles away, but the troubles increase and they once AGAIN attempt to kill him.
we all think of Nephi as nearly perfect, following the Lord, doing whatever He asked - whenever He asked, never doubting, never waivering. why isn't the Lord taking care of the brothers and giving it to them?
The Lord finally answers Nephi by telling him its time to go. sometimes we have to walk away from something that isn't working. that was the Lord's answer to Nephi. things weren't going to change, Laman and Lemuel had gone to the dark side and weren't coming back.
As soon as the Lord told them to walk away then they could get on with the business of progressing - their lives could be Gospel centered. Nephi taught them the value of work. they constructed a temple, they worshiped and the Lord blessed them immensely.
in verse 32 Nephi engraves on the records what is pleasing to God. then he writes, "if my people are pleased with the things of God they will be pelased wtih mine engravings" (meaning the BofM). Simply put, if you love God you will love the BofM. i must love God because i truely LOVE the Book of Mormon.
A whole book could be written regarding the words Jacob writes in 6-9. my plan this week is to really study these 3 chapters. please take the time to read and ponder.
